3 tips for inexpensive vacation

As summer appears to have finally arrived and the kids are finally enjoying their well-deserved school break, it is now very tempting to think of a family vacation. Unfortunately, for many among us, the word “vacation” rhymes with “big spending”! Here are some tips offered by our financial experts in order to have fun without breaking the bank.

  • Take advantage of free activities: Most people don’t think about all their city has to offer. Depending on where you live, it is likely that you have access to a cultural program that is quite varied, in addition to being free for all. In the summer, you can choose between outdoor family-friendly movies, rallies of all kinds, and animated weekends that include inflatable games, concerts and fireworks, to name but a few. If the activities offered in your area do not interest you, nothing prevents you from participating in those organized by surrounding boroughs! If you also wish to participate in paid activities, most cities offer a citizen card that provides reduced rates.
  • Visit your family: For those fortunate enough to have relatives who live far away, we suggest you pack your bags and discover new horizons. There is no need to go to the other end of the world; you can simply visit your relatives who will take pleasure in welcoming you into their home, for free if you’re lucky. Ultimately, you will only have to pay for gas and a few bottles of wine to thank them for receiving you so warmly, as well as a small budget for various outings if you so choose. It is the equivalence of an all-inclusive vacation that will ensure a good time and will allow you to reconnect with your family!
  • Plan for your next vacation: It can be taxing for the mind – and the wallet – to realize that it will cost several hundred dollars for one week’s vacation. It is most likely too late to start saving for this summer’s holiday, but not next year’s. We suggest opening a savings account into which you automatically deposit a portion of your paycheque to put towards your next vacation. This way, small amounts accumulated throughout the year will allow you to set aside the capital necessary for next summer. So why not start saving now?

We hope these tips will help you enjoy your summer vacation. Don’t forget that we can also help you with your budget, your credit report, and on ways to avoid debt. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a free and confidential consultation.
